Indonesia To Target 20 Million Arrivals By 2019

Indonesia is planning its biggest push for Indian arrivals. The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia through its India office (VITO) is gearing up to lure tourists from source market – India. We are almost at the end of the year 2015, today we are here to convey our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the media, who have been continuously supporting us in the past and expect to be with us in the coming years.

Indonesia and India are the biggest democracies in Asia and have enjoyed historical, economic and cultural links for more than a thousand years. Hope the close relationship between the two countries would help the tourism industries to deliver mutual advantage in the coming years.

“Wonderful Indonesia”, Indonesia’s tourism motto reflects the country’s beautiful nature, unique culture, varied food, hospitable people and price competitiveness in various kind of services.

India is ranked in the top10 countries for tourist arrival to Indonesia. Based on the foreign visits realization data of 2014, the number of Indian visitors increased about 16.23% to 237.990 visitors compared to the 2013’s, 204.756 visits. The positive trend of increase in Indian tourist arrivals is visible from January until September 2015, to 195,214 visitors.

Meanwhile, demand for international tourism to Indonesia remain strong, according to the results reported by Indonesia Statistics Bureau  records the total number of foreign tourists for January-December 2014 was 9.435.411 tourists, or increased 7.19% from the number recorded in 2013. As expected that in 2015, 12 million international visitors will visit Indonesia. International visitor arrival in September 2015 grew 9.84% compares to September 2014. Arrival growth (Sept 2015) from India was 10.94% in comparison to the previous year.

Indians can now look forward to holidaying in Indonesia without the worry of paying for visa. The 30 days Visa Free facility can be used for government duties, education, social-cultural purposes, tourism, business, family visits and on transit purposes only.  Visa Free facility will give boost to tourism and we are expecting a substantial growth in terms of Indian arrivals in Indonesia.

To reach the target of 20 million international visitors, the Ministry of Tourism will strive to develop new tourism products and focus on the three main segments of Indonesia tourism:

Nature (Marine, Ecology and Adventure Tourism);

Culture (History and Religious, Culinary, and Urban & Country Side Tourism);

Man Made (MICE and Event, Sport and Integrated Resort Tourism).

Postioning Indonesia as an attractive tourism destination particularly in India our marketing strategy will be more visible in Social media, Print media and Electronic media. Ministry plans to organize more Fam Trips for Indian media, travel agents, tour operators, wedding planners and to participate in key Travel and Wedding Fairs in India.
