THE 1ST VIETNAM TOURISM NIGHT IN CHANDIGARH

The Embassy of the S.R. of Vietnam in India, in association with OM Tourism, India, Vido Tour and Victoria Tour, travel agents from Vietnam, organized the first ever Vietnam Tourism Promotion event in the Northern Region of India, under the theme “Charming Vietnam – Destination for Indian tourists” at JW Marriot Hotel in Chandigarh. The Chairman of Travel Agents Association of India, Chandigarh Chapter and more than 90 representatives from travel agencies and media attended the event.

In his welcoming speech at the event, H.E. Mr. Ton Sinh Thanh, Ambassador of Vietnam to India, reviewed recent developments in the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, particularly the recent increase of business interactions and exchange of visits between the two countries.

As shared by Ambassador Thanh, the number of Indian tourists visited Vietnam increased from 12,000 in 2007 to 55,000 in 2014 and it is expected to reach 75,000 at the end of this year, with an average growth of 50% per year. However, tourism inflows between our two countries remained lagging far behind other areas of cooperation. Indian tourists constitute only 0.07% of foreign tourists who visited Vietnam and only 0.03% of India outbound market, Ambassador Thanh said.

With tourist promotion as the most important step to increase tourist exchanges between our two countries, this tourism night is one of the series of events organized by Vietnam Embassy in India in many big cities in India in the last few months. Participating in this event, travel agents from Vietnam had chance to make presentations on Vietnam’s top tourist destinations, some tour services and to interact with travel agents from India.

Committing to creating all the favourable conditions for Indian visitors to Vietnam and to enhancing interactions between the travel companies from Vietnam and India in the time to come, earlier, Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh also participated in the inauguration of the Vietnam Visa information and application centre. The centre is run by Cox&Kings Global Services in Chandigarh to facilitate visa application for Indian tourists from the Northern region to Vietnam.
